Origin: It is believed to be originated from Egypt, Syria, Turkestan, and Eastern Mediterranean region.

Morphology:
Habit: Annual herb, height not above 30 cm, profusely branches.
Leaf: De-compound
Flower: Compound, Umbel, Color violets
Fruit: Capsule and spindle shape
Cumin seed contains volatile oil 7-8% dried seed is mainly used as a condiment, also used in mixed spices and curry powder.
Climatic Requirements:
Require cool and dry climates, temperature ranging from 15-50 degree C, humidity around 65%, minimum rainfall during the growing season 5-10 mm is enough, even grown in rainfed condition.
Soil: Deep friable, well drained sandy loam to clay loam soil having PH 6.5-7.8 is best for cumin cultivation.
Cultivation Procedure: Cumin is propagated by seed.
Seed Rate: 15-20 kg/ha
Sowing Time: October-November
Manuring:
1. Farm Yard Manure: 5 ton/ha
2. Urea: 100 kg/ha
3. TSP: 70 kg/ha
4. MoP: 70 kg/ha
All manure and fertilizers applied during final land preparation.
Intercultural Operation:
1. Irrigation (2-3)
2. Thinning (when plant at 5cm height)
Yield:
Harvested during 100-120 days after planting. After harvesting dry in shade and thresh.
Possible yield is 450-550 kg/ha
